Stampendous/Dreamweaver Thursday - By the Sea

I couldn't be happier with our theme this week, as I'm literally on my beach vacation in Cape May, NJ as of this posting!

I have numerous Dreamweaver stencils that are perfect for By the Sea.  I chose three stencils I've actually never used and the background waves is a favorite for this time of year.

Here's my card for today:

Picture
The design started with three Dreamweaver shell stencils:  Sand Dollar, Scallop, and Starfish.  All were pasted on Vellum Cardstock (A Muse), which is a bit sturdier than regular lightweight vellum.  While the paste was still wet, I sprinkled Stampendous Micro Glitters:  Gold, Crystal, Pink and let each dry.  Before fussy cutting them, I turned each one over and colored the back of the vellum with Copic markers:  Pale Olive YG95, Buttercup Yellow Y21, and Tender Pink RV13.

Once the card was finished, the background became less visible, but it was dry embossed with Dreamweaver's Waves stencil (an absolute must-have if you're into creating beach cards) onto vellum cardstock.  It was colored with Gelatos and instead of using water to blend, I spritzed Memories Mists Iridescent and it worked great!  Here are the Gelato colors used for the backgroud:

I wanted to customize my May Arts white ribbon and Gelatos to the rescue!  I randomly colored here and there onto the ribbon first with one color orange and then the other.  Water was spritzed over the entire piece of ribbon and then, with my fingers, I worked the color to blend all the way down the length of ribbon until I was satisfied.  I set it aside to dry.  TIP:  I had leftover Gelato 'soup' on my work table after coloring the ribbon, so I 'mopped' it up with a tag from my stash that became the sentiment tag on the card!  Sentiment is Stampendous and was punched with an EK Success punch.

Here are the two Gelato colors I used for the ribbon:

A beach card isn't a beach card without creating dreamy, softness behind the shells.  The mesh was just some gauze from my medicine cabinet and is a perfect medium on a card.  Once the card was all assembled, I just had to add Stampendous Encrusted Jewels from the Blue Kit!  I am gaga over this stuff and I encourage you to play with it if you haven't already.  Silver Dot Sparklers were randomly added for more sparkle.

Hope you enjoyed my card today!  Before you go to the next designer's blog, I'd very much appreciate your comment!  See you tomorrow!

I love the textures, which are so appropriate for a seaside card. As one who lives on an island in the Gulf of Mexico, I plan to use some of your techniques and materials.

There is so much depth to this project. The shells popping off the background, the gauze behind the shells really makes an interesting feature.

The shells look so real. How resourceful of you to use the leftover gelato "soup" to color the tag. I love all the extra embellishments you used to make the card spectacular. I'm from Georgia in USA.
