IHP TRENDS Blog Hop

I {Heart} Papers Design Team has teamed up with the Paper Craft Planet Super Novas to bring about emerging TRENDS in the paper art industry as inspired by CHA held this past January.  For those who attended CHA, the excitement in seeing three huge showrooms of brand new products and sharing what they saw is how this group project came together.

My TRENDS 3d project is all about altering and wrapping with twine!  The matching card is all about using chevrons!  I {Heart} Papers sent me an empty plastic tube with a cap and a 6x6 paper pad of Authentique ‘Genuine’ papers.  The plastic tube is used for holding small items such as tiny buttons, tiny flowers, brads, and other embellishments.
The Project:
I paired the tube and card together for a sense of scale of the tube.  It is about 1" x 4" and is filled with flat marbles for weight and to hold the flower stems in place.  The first step was to wrap the twine around the tube.  To hold the twine in place, I wrapped two rows of 1/4" Red Line (or ScorPal) tape horizontally around the bottom of the tube.  Next run 3 vertical lines of tape evenly spaced out around the tube.  Run one more horizontal line of tape at the very top so as to get a good grab of the twine.  The remaining end was taped to the inside of the tube where it is out of site.
The Vase:
The main thing is to wrap carefully and to keep your work straight as you wrap.  The tube needed a little something after it was all wrapped and I cut 4 pieces of twine and wrapped them around toward the top and tied a nice bow.
Close-up of Flowers:
The flowers are all 3 layers made with hand held punches of varying shapes.  The smallest flower in the center would be the 4th layer.  Some edges were sanded, some were edged in ink.  Everything is curled and mounted with foam tape to create depth and dimension.  Use a hot glue gun to affix the flower to the wire and cover up the back with a 1" punched circle.  Decorate as desired.  The wire is simply bent in random ways to add interest.
The Card:  With chevrons being hot right now, I knew I had to add them to the card front.  What you can't see well is that I separately cut one row of chevron and foam mounted it for a 3d effect!  The word 'Genuine' was just part of the packaging and seemed to fit just right within the little tag.  More twine gives it a nice organic feel.
Inside Card:  I was on a roll with the card so I couldn't resist using more of the packaging the paper pack came in to complete the inside of the card.  I cut out the ticket and beautiful butterfly from one of the papers and the card was finished!
