· Everson Tree has been purchased and the lights work! It’s sitting in my living room just waiting to be decorated. Set up is usually Thanksgiving weekend. Just as a reminder, if you do make a card for the Everson Tree, it needs to be an A2 (4-1/4 x 5-1/2) to fit our cellophane sleeves. This year, I purchased cellophane sleeves that already have a hanger attached, which should be easier overall to hang onto the tree.
OCTOBER MEETING REPORT
The Reader’s Digest version is this: Great turnout and we made three cards. One card was elaborate, paper pieced and layered using the Hero Arts cling. The other two cards were less involved and were an exercise in being okay with simple…a difficult task for me! Several fun door prizes including a Haromie stamp, one of the stamps we used in the cards!
NOVEMBER SWAP: Gift Tags, Gift Bag, $5 Gifts and Recipe Card
Traditionally, our annual Holiday meeting is, no doubt, my favorite meeting of the year! Our swap is totally different because we each make 30 gift tags that can be all the same or different. Once made, place your hand made tags in one zip lock bag. Making 30 tags might sound huge, but it’s really not once you begin. You can use pre-made tags, cut your own from strips, punch out circles, ovals, squares, etc. The object of the tag swap is to end up receiving a wonderful selection of tags to use on your own packaging or give away as little gifties. If you are stuck for ideas, please call the Shoppe for help or email me! We have a variety of diecuts that will work beautifully for tag shapes. Our club has been exchanging gift tags for many, many years and, believe me, it is a popular activity. You will want to be a part of this fun exchange that is very similar to a cookie exchange.
Secondly, for our gift bag segment, we ask you to bring a hand decorated gift bag filled with $5 worth of product from the Shoppe. When shopping for your gift(s), consider going in with a friend and divide packages of multiples to add more variety to your gift. For example, if you purchase a package of gems with a friend, divide it in half and give a couple of rows to the gift bag. You can even take a 12x12 sheet of paper and cut it in half or in quarters and place pieces in your gift bag. Let’s see just how much you can stuff into your gift for a $5 value! Also, think outside the gift bag….!!!! Does it have to be a gift “bag?” Think of items that can be re-purposed or simply not as typical as a gift bag. If you do use a gift bag, think it as a giant card front when decorating it. I can’t wait to see what you create as your gift “bag!”
Lastly, if you have a favorite holiday recipe or have come across a new recipe you’d like to share, place it inside your gift bag. This is a fun personal touch to your gift that is easy to include.
Since we have a lot to do for this meeting, you will not have to bring a second card to donate.
BRING A FOOD ITEM FOR OUR GOODY TABLE! A popular favorite, we ask anyone who wishes to bring in a food item they made. There is always a variety of food from cookies, to appetizers, to fun munchies. I supply a beverage, plates, napkins, etc. If your food item requires a serving utensil, bring that also.
NOVEMBER PROJECT: Papercrafts for the Holidays
I have been busy creating just the right ending to our club year by keeping the holidays in mind with some ideas to include in your own home décor and gift giving/packaging. Sherry will join us for one of the project segments. We will create three projects and without saying too much, all of them will become usable ideas for many purposes. Please be sure to have your basic kit items as listed below. Plan on a creative and interesting evening. This meeting is typically a large turnout and we will accommodate seating for you, but you must call the Shoppe ahead to reserve your spot as table and chair configurations must be considered with such a large group.
